Top Ten Tuesdays (Freebie): Creature Feature

For More Info go to: The Broke and The Bookish
Today's Top Ten Tuesday Topic is FREEBIE! Meaning I get to pick whatever. So, I decided on Top Ten Creatures in Literature, Mythical or otherwise. Here goes...

1. Manchee (The Chaos Walking Trilogy by Patrick Ness) - This dog broke my heart. No other dog could be more loyal and loving than to his master than Machee.

2. Acorn and Angharrad (The Chaos Walking Trilogy by Patrick Ness) - Another one of those fiercely loyal creatures whose devotion to their masters that made me cry.

3. Buckbeak the Hippogriff (Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by J.K. Rowling) - Sure, Hedwig, the snowy owl is iconic when it comes to HP, but Buckbeak is my favorite. Despite his grandness of being a hippogriff and all, he exudes affection towards Harry and Hagrid and he's kind of adorable. And turned out to be a very helpful in saving Sirius Black.

4. The Great Eagles (Lord of the Rings by JRR Tolkien) - These soaring majestic birds are messengers and spies and guardians of sorts. They have gotten Gandalf out of tough scrapes and have been instrumental in saving Middle Earth from evil. If there's something strange in Middle Earth, who you gonna call? The Eagles! :D

5. Pegasus (Greek Mythology) - What could be more majestic than this white winged horse? Trivia: This mythological creature came forth from the blood of the Gorgon Medusa. And in other stories, from the mixture of Medusa's blood and sea foam. Meaning sired by Poseidon as well.

6. Iorek Byrnison (His DarkMaterials Trilogy by Philip Pullman) - The Great Armored Bears of Svalbard are a sight to behold, I imagine. I admire Iorek's strength and kingly bearing as well as his unwavering friendship to Lyra and Lee Scoresby.

7. Reepicheep (The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S.Lewis) - Okay, I'm cheating a bit with this one, I have only read one Narnia book (#3) and I don't think Reep was even in it. But I do love this swashbuckling, charming and chivalrous mouse in the movie adaptations.

8. Hot Dog (Archie Comics) - While a lot grew up with the white Beagle, Snoopy, I on the other hand, read Archies by the bucket, and grew particularly fond of Jughead's white sheepdog and all of his shenanigans.

9. Salem (Sabrina the Teenage Witch/Archie Comics) - Like I said, I used to read Archie Comics in bucket loads, and I have always enjoyed the Sabrina stories with Salem's bravado, and wit, and humor. (He's technically not a cat, but a warlock cursed into a cat, but Meh.)

10. Richard Parker (Life of Pi by Yann Martel) - This particular Bengal Tiger is a fascinating and unforgettable creature and I am still at awe at how Pi developed some sort of relationship with this tiger and learn loads about life from him.

How about you? Any favorite creatures in literature?

  1. Fabulous choice of topic and list of creatures. I admit to especially loving the Eagles in Tolkien. And, yeah, Hot Dog was fun.

As for my favourite creature, I love any story with a golem. In fact, I'm running a giveaway this week for a copy of The Golem and the Jinni by Helene Wecker. http://boxesofpaper.com/2013/05/27/book-review-giveaway-the-golem-and-the-jinni-by-helene-wecker/

As for Top Ten Tuesday, I chose my favourite books to handsell at the bookstore, of which Wecker's is one. http://boxesofpaper.com/2013/05/28/top-ten-tuesday-books-i-love-to-sell-to-customers/

Sorry for spamming with links, but I love that the first post I checked out was such a compatible topic.

    1. Hi Cate! The Eagles and Hot Dog are awesome. (That sentence sounded strange. Hee.) I will check out The Golem and the Jinni, the title itself sounds like something I might like. Reminds me a bit of one of my favorite series, Jonathan Stroud's The Bartimaues Trilogy. There is a golem and a djinni in Book 2: The Golem's Eye.

No worries about the links. I'll go check out your post. Your topic looks interesting. And your a bookseller? That's my dream job! Haha! Thanks for dropping by! :D
