Top Ten Favorite Book Covers Of Books I've Read

1. Why We Broke Up by Danile Handler, and Maria Kalman - I love the cup and saucer suspended in midair, I can almost hear it's inevitable crash to the floor. It is a perfect depiction of the book's theme.

2. Geektastic: Stories from the Nerd Herd edited by Holly Black and Cecil Castellucci - It's because the pixelated characters on the cover reminds me of my nintendo/family computer days! And I love that each one represents a specific type of geek.

3. Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling - The HP books have recently been given a makeover, and while I think they are great, I still hold a special place in my heart to the Mary Grandpre ones.

4. The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien -Far over, the misty mountains rise!

5. The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins - I admire the whole militaristic, geometric design of the series. And how the mockingjay's position changes, as a way of depicting the stage in which the story is in.

6. Love and Leftovers by Sarah Tregay - I love the chuck taylors, and the tip toeing. It spells contemporary YA without the usual holding hands, or hugging, or almost kissing, or any of those touchy feely covers that abound in the covers of YA Contemporary books.

7.  Dash and Lily's Book of Dares by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan - The flurry of snowflakes, and the street signs with the title and the author's name, and the lighted heart. It's dreamy, it's romantic, it's christmasy, and still very much touchy feely free.

8. Hero by Perry Moore - I expect a superhero novel to have the usual "comic book-ish" type of cover. A colorful flurry of sketches. But this one won me over by it's simplicity. It's sleek, it's clean, and superhero-tastic.

 9. Star Girl by Jerry Spinelli - It's adorable, and simple, and cute. And it's a doodle, a teen's common medium of expression. And if Star Girl is anything else, it' about fearless expression of one's individuality.

10. Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen - Ruben Toledo, a Cuban American artist made these couture deluxe editions for Penguin that are very cool. Aside from P&P, there's one of Jane Eyre, Wuthering Heights, Dracula etc. They are all fabulous actually, but it's only P&P that I've read. See them here: Penguin Books.

  2. I like minimalist covers. Examples: Why We Broke Up, Stargirl (and Love, Stargirl) and Boy Meets Boy. (Although I haven't read the last one yet.)

    1. Hi Atty. Monique! I like them too. As they say, less is more. That's why I like the particular cover of Hero above as opposed to it's other edition. And I haven't read Boy Meets Boy too, but I saw the cover, the one with the conversation hearts. It's pretty cute. :D
