Required Reading 2013: March

Before I tell you about my March Required Reads, I thought I'd first give a report of how I fared in the February Required Reading Challenge. I had four titles lined-up, all of which are romance themed, and all of which I happened to finish ahead of time. Yay! So I had a little extra time to pick up other books that suit my mood along the way.  Anyway, I was quite happy with the four titles that I included in my February Required Reading List. It constituted a proper mixture of young love and heartbreak.

FRRC Report
1. Love and Leftovers by Sarah Tregay - 4 Stars
2. This Lullaby by Sarah Dessen -4 Stars
3. The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight - 3 Stars
4. The Lover's Dictionary by David Levithan - 3.5 Stars

Now onto the March Required Reading Challenge.

Every year, I always look forward to Superhero Movies. And my sister recently gave me the news that they'll be doing another X-Men movie! They say it might be called X-Men: Days of Future Past. Hugh Jackman has signed on as well as James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Ian Mckellen, Patrick Stewart, Jennifer Lawrence, etc. (Yay!) Plus, we have Iron Man 3, Thor 2 and Man of Steel coming out this year. We then launched into a discussion of our favorite superheroes, and how much we loved them. This got me thinking. I haven't really started on the few superhero themed reads that I happen to have on my TBR.

So, I declare the month of March as Superhero Month! *brandishes cape, aims fan in current location, puts both hand on hips, and puffs chest*

Here's what I have lined-up:

1. Hero by Perry Moore - What caught my attention regarding this books is that it's an LGBT YA novel. A Superhero LGBT YA novel to be more specific. Never had one of those. I already started with this one and I am plowing through it pretty fast. It's actually really good

2. In Hero Years...I'm Dead by Michael Stackpole - Michael Stackpole, as I've come to know, is a bit of a geek. He designs computer games (Star Trek, Wasteland..etc) and writes Star Wars and Battle Tech novels and has recently been commisioned to write the next novel in the widely popular MMRPG World of Warcraft, to which my cousin is currently obsessed with right now. So, I gather that he understands fantasy and heroes. So I hope this one will turn out to be good.

3. The Rise of Renegade X by Chelsea Campbell - I love the comic book-ish cover and while it screams superhero, the protagonist is actually pegged to be the next big super villain which makes for an interesting story me thinks. Reminds me of the animated film Megamind as well.

Plus, a few BATMAN Graphic Novels:

1. Year One by Frank Miller

2. The Long Halloween by Jeph Loeb
3. The Killing Joke by Alan Moore
4. Earth One by Geoff Johns

Spillovers: Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein and Bitterblue by Kristin Cashore

Okay,  so that's about it everyone. I hope the Month of March will turn out to be Super for all of us. :D

    1. This is actually my first time to try superhero themed books. I'm almost done with Hero by Perry Moore and I initially thought it would be too campy or cheesy but it's actually pretty good.

Thanks Lynai! I wish you all the same! :)
