Top Ten Books I'm Thankful For

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by The Broke and The Bookish.
A topic is featured every week, to be answered through a top ten list.
1. Lady Bird Classics - These are story books of well loved fairy tales which have always been a huge part of my childhood. I thank them for providing my younger self with much magic and a whole lot of moral lessons.

2. Archie Comics - I will always be thankful for Archie and the Gang. They provided a sneak peak of Americana culture and gave me much entertainment as I used to exchange them with friends and sneak read them during class. (And I got caught...once) :)

3. The Harry Potter Series by J.K. Rowling - Who isn't thankful for Harry Potter? I mean, this book makes its way in almost every Top Ten Tuesdays List. I am immensely thankful to Ms. Rowling because HP started and cemented my obsession and love affair with books.

4. Mythology by Edith Hamilton - This is perhaps the only one from the required reading list in high school which I absolutely adored and I am thankful for it because I discovered the wonderful world of Greek, Roman and Norse Mythology.

5. The Hunger Games Trilogy by Suzanne Collins - Years after finishing the Harry Potter series, I didn't really find anything remotely close to the excitement I felt with Harry and the gang. Up until I discovered The Hunger Games. And I am thankful for that because this was also the time where I became aware of my favorite genre, YA.

6. A Northern Light by Jennifer Donnelly - I am thankful for this book because it made me realize that beautiful writing is just as important as the other elements like the characters, plot, setting etc, to me at least.

7. The Book Thief by Marcus Zusak - I never did realize the power of words and stories and books until I read this one.

8. Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen - I am thankful for this because it's a rarity that I will ever enjoy an adult classic. I think Pride and Prejudice might be the sole title to fill that spot. This book made me discover the social implications of marriage and relationship which is still even applicable in the present times.

9. The Little Prince - I am thankful for this book because it's so thin and has fewer words than most books I've read. And the story seems quite simple too and yet it speaks volumes.

10. Word of Mouth Stories (Oral Tradition) - Technically this isn't a "book", but I will always be thankful for the made up stories from my mom, sisters, and friends. They are as good as any fairy tale or fable and sort of acted as an introduction to both foreign and local myth. While others gave me a laugh, there were those that gave me nightmares. :)

How about you? Any books or authors that you are most thankful for?

    1. I find that Jane Austen novels are really readable than most classics, so it's easier for someone like me (slow on classics :D) to comprehend. :)

  2. Comic books were a way into reading for lots of people, I imagine.

    1. Oh yes, I wasn't much of a reader when I was young, with the exception of Comic Books. Text-filled books didn't do it for my old middle grade self. :)

  3. Little Prince is such a great book! And Harry Potter, of course. :) Great list :)

  4. I haven't read Mythology, unfortunately. I was supposed to for one of my college classes, but the bookstore or the supply company or *someone* messed up and there weren't enough copies--they were even sold out in the local bookstores (and this was before Amazon, too). the teacher photocopied a couple of stories and we did that part, but that was all we did.

    1. Edith Hamilton's book is a terrific introduction to Greek, Roman, and Norse Myth. I hope you'll get a chance to finally grab a copy. Speaking of Mythology, If you'd like, Rick Riordan does really good mythology retellings. Percy Jackson and Heroes of Olympus are both good. :D

  5. The Little Prince. I forgot to list that one. It is such an amazing book.

Pride and Prejudice is my most favorite book ever. It was number one on my list.

I liked Mythology when I read it in high school as well. Definitely one of the few ones I liked.

I love seeing all the HP love today. I never get sick of all the love people have for HP.

    1. I agree, The Little Prince is an amazing. It's children's lit but it's really for all ages.

Like I said, P&P just might be the only adult classic that I'll love because it's so readable and funny and really good. :) I even loved it's movie adaptation.

With Mythology, I did not get that sleepy during class. :D

Oh Me too! I will never get tired of it. I love HP and people who love it back! :)
