Living On Borrowed Kindle...Sigh

My lovely friend is kind enough to lend me her Kindle. It feels so light and small and purty! I am not completely sold on the idea of reading through an e-reader. But right now, holding this kindle, I am seriously having second thoughts. Aside from the travel friendly size, it can store what, thousands of titles? And you can highlight lines, and make notes. And I was especially thrilled that you can make the font size bigger! :)

But then again, I will miss getting to physically flip the pages, and looking at the beautiful book covers, and the smelling that "new book" smell. I am not sure of the prices of e-books over printed ones. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think the latter is still cheaper?

How about you? What are your thoughts regarding an e-reader / e-books? Are you all for it, or do you prefer reading the old fashioned way?

  1. What a sweet friend! --I still prefer printed books hands down but I tell ya, ereading's not as taxing as I thought it'd be. The only downside is that my Kindle Fire is a bit heavy. --Not sure about the cheaper question. I'm a bargain hunter and I get lots of ebook freebies on Amazon ..you can check out my "Book Loot Giddy" posts (see my Labels section) for examples. :)

    1. I know, right? She's awesome. But the downside of a borrowed kindle,(aside from the fact that you have to return it :D)is that I get all anxious over it. Absolutely no one could touch it and I make sure it is handled with utmost care, which can be pretty exhausting. :)

This one is the Kindle Touch which I think is really smaller and lighter than the Kindle Fire. But the latter has more functions and applications that the former doesn't have right?

I'll go check out your post Jinky. :D

  2. Oooo.. I've never seen and held a Kindle product, yet. But that's a neat-looking one. I know that Kindle uses a kind of ink that doesn't strain the eyes, but I still prefer reading the traditional way - flipping through pages, smelling the pages of the books.. Nothing can beat that experience. haha!

    1. Hey Rhin! I think they call it the E Ink Display. It really doesn't strain the eyes. I can totally feel the difference when I read there as opposed to when I read on my laptop, with the glaring light of the screen.

Your right, nothing really beats printed books. Just physically holding them makes me oh so happy. Teehee :) So, I think I still go for the traditional way of reading too. But we can always do both. :D

  3. Because books are taking up so much space in my room, my mom asks me to get a Kindle or any e-reader. But its being handy and practical can't outweigh my love for traditional reading. Like you've said, there's something about the scent of books, the illustrated covers, and the feel of holding it and flipping through the pages which makes it much much better than simply reading through a gadget. So to answer your question, I'll take a paperback over an e-book anytime. :)

    1. My room hasn't been overrun by books...just yet. Almost but not quite. :D

I agree. An e-reader is really practical. Especially if you travel a lot. But yeah, nothing beats the old school way of reading. And you can never really go book bargain hunting with e-books. :)
