Top 13 Reads of 2013

The year 2013 was a pretty good year in reading. I managed to find a number of memorable titles. So, here they are (in no particular order):
  1. A Song of Ice and Fire Series 1-4 by George R.R. Martin – I am now hugely obsessed with this series! It's full of danger, uncertainty, magic, dragons, knights. What's not to love?
  2. Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn – A well written tense, taut, and suspenseful thriller that made me lose my mind!
  3. Tigana by Guy Gavriel Kay – A grand, sweeping epic tale about memories, identity, and home. I loved that there are quiet lyrical moments, in as much as fast paced ones.
  4. Tenth of December by George Saunders – Despite having some strange elements in an otherwise contemporary story, it turned out to be compelling, insightful, and touching.
  5. Ender’s Series 1-2 & Ender’s Shadow by Orson Scott Card – An accessible sci-fi. It's a great blend of action-y stuff and think-y stuff.
  6. Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein - The best friendship story I have ever read, hands down. It's beautifully written and speaks volumes about bravery and love and loyalty.
  7. In Hero Years I’m Dead by Michael Stackpoole - A unique superhero tale which  I loved for it's dark humor and satire.
  8. Navigating Early by Clare Vanderpool - A lovely adventure story about friendship, grief, loss and just finding your bearings in the sea called life.
  9. Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman - A story which I won't forget for it's spellbinding and mesmerizing atmosphere.
  10. Fables: Legends in Exile by Bill Willingham - An unusual take on fairy tales. It's dark, grim, suspenseful, and one highly addicting series.
  11. The King of Attolia by Megan Whalen Turner - Great third installment. The excitement did not wane. Plus, I am just happy to have Eugenides back to his somewhat old self again.
  12. Ring of Solomon by Jonathan Stroud - Wise cracks. Hilarity. Magical. Fast-paced. Barty!
  13. The 10 pm Question by Kate De Goldi - A story which I loved for it's honesty and sensitivity about mental illness. It's quite sweet and funny too.
How about you? What are your favorites this year? Have you read any of the books above? Do Share!
