Top Ten Favorite Characters in the Fantasy Genre

This is a feature hosted by The Broke and The Bookish. For more info click THIS.

1. Hermione Granger (Harry Potter Series by J.K. Rowling) - Let's face it, the boys wouldn't stand a chance without Hermione. They'd be done for even before they began.

2. Harry Potter (Harry Potter Series by J.K. Rowling) - I will always have a spot in my heart for the boy who lived. My childhood was made a little more magical because of Harry.

3. Bilbo Baggins (The Hobbit by J.R.R Tolkien) - He is one cunning and courageous little hobbit that can hold his own against the stout company of 13 dwarves.

4. Eowyn (Lord of the Rings Trilogy by J.R.R. Tolkien) - This is one gutsy girl. I mean, she slayed the Witch-King all by herself!

5. Sorcha (Daughter of the Forest by Juliet Marillier) - This is one tenacious girl. Nothing can ever make her give up, not humiliation, not pain, only to save her brothers and her kingdom.

6. Kitty Jones (Bartimaues Trilogy by Jonathan Stroud) - She's a commoner but she doesn't take orders from pompous magicians or powerful djinnis.

7. Bartimaues (Bartimaeus Trilogy by Jonathan Stroud) - Wise cracking djinni who I've come to appreciate not only for his hilarity but for his heart.

8. Jonathan Strange (Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norell by Susanna Clarke) - This guy is brimming with confidence and his magical powers matches that. Plus, I love his love for his wife.

9. Mr. Norell (Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norell by Susanna Clarke) - He's an old stuffy scholarly crone but I always have soft spot for bookworms such as him plus he did sort of redeem himself in the end.

10. Eugenides (Queen of Attolia by Megan Whalen Turner) - He is sharp as a whip and can steal anything for you. Robin Hood doesn't stand a chance.

Okay, I'm going to cheat here. As an excuse to include other characters, more than the limit of 10, I made an honorable mentions list. Hihi.

Honorable Mentions:

1. Sirius Black (Harry Potter Series by J.K. Rowling)
2. Gandalf, Samwise Gamgee (The  LOTR Trilogy by J.R.R. Tolkien)
3. Sorcha's 6 Brothers: Liam, Diarmid, Connor, Cormack, Finbar, and Padriac (Daughter of the Forest by Juliet Marillier)
4. Irene, The Queen of Attolia (The Queen of Attolia by Megan Whalen Turner)
7. Lyra Belacqua (His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman)
8. Katsa (Graceling by Kristin Cashore)
11. Shadow (American Gods by Neil Gaiman)
12. Hazel Levesque and Frank Zhang (Heroes of Olympus Series by Rick Riordan)

13. Sabriel (Sabriel by Garth Nix)

How about you? I'd love to hear about your favorite literary characters. :D

  3. Yay! Um, since I haven't read most of the list, I have to give serious props for the HP references. Also, Bilbo and Eowyn. I have been wanting to read JS and MN, need to get on that :)
