Top Ten Series I Haven't Finished

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by The Broke and The Bookish
which features a weekly topic to be answered through a top ten list
I may just about have around 17 series that I have left unfinished for various reasons but for this post I am going to whittle it down to 10.

Series left unfinished due to lack of interest

  • The Gallagher Girls Series by Ally Carter - My teenage cousin recommended this and lent me three of the books in the series but after reading just one, I found that it wasn't my type. The whole spy school of teenagers might be a fun Disney movie though but I am more discriminating when it comes to books.
  • Matched Series by Ally Condie - I have read up to the second book: Crossed. But still there wasn't enough action to engage me.  I like my dystopian reads to be action packed like The Hunger Games and Chaos Walking. Dark and gritty and explosive whilst Matched is the quite and peaceful kind, not really my type of dystopian read.
Series left unfinished but will likely finish it only if someone lends me or gifts me with it
  • Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare - I am not so quite keen on the paranormal genre, based on my experience, they mostly go the route of "if you've read one you've read them all". For me at least. I fairly liked Clockwork Angel (better than Mortal Instruments), the language, the setting, and the characters were more my taste than those of TMI's.
  • Divergent Series by Veronica Roth - Divergent left me wanting more. While it wasn't short on the "action" department, it just wasn't as thought provoking as I wanted it to be. But I think I should give Insurgent a shot for me to formulate a sound judgement.
Series I would LOVE to finish but can't due to lack of funds (or available copies)
  • The Thief Series by Megan Whalen Turner - The Queen of Attolia was absolutely amazingly good. Really really good. I mean it. :D
  • Sevenwaters Series by Juliet Marillier - I adored Daughter of the Forest, it is a lovely epic fantasy but copies of this series are hard to find here.
  • Chaos Walking Trilogy by Patrick Ness - I have cemented this (right beside The Hunger Games) as one of the best dystopian YA read in which I judge the others under the genre. It is both action packed and thought provoking. I am itching for Monsters of Men.
  • Thursday Next Series by Jasper Fforde - What do you think of the idea of entering a literary work, meeting the characters and inhabiting their world? Cool no? For bibliophiles, this series is a must read.
  • Graceling Series by Kristin Cashore - I have been hearing how Fire is even better than Graceling so how can I pass that up?
  • Abhorsen Trilogy by Garth Nix - I loved Sabriel. The whole idea of different bells binding the dead and the different gates from which they come. I am eager to know how Sabriel, Touchstone, and Moget faired in the next book.
How about you? What are the series that you haven't finished yet? Why so?

  1. You should really give a chance to Clockwork Prince and Insurgent. I love both series. :)

    1. I know I should right? You can never really fully tell how much you would like the series just by reading the first book. :D

  2. I agree with the masses about Fire in the Graceling series - loved it! Bitterblue though, not as much. And I still have to finish up The Chaos Walking trilogy too - read the first book, but haven't moved on to the others yet.

    1. I thought Fire would continue to have Katsa and Po as the main characters but I guess not. Still, I am interested in the series despite that. Which is the best for you then? Fire?

I think it may have been about a year before I started to read the 2nd book in Chaos Walking and it was a great read, even better than the 1st book. I hope we'll both get to finish it soon. :)

  3. I'm not really a fan of series, so I'm not very familiar with most of the titles, but usually, I finish every book in the series once I'm hooked! Owning book series can certainly take up a lot of space in your shelf. haha!

I think the series I haven't finished (and will not plan on finishing them) are Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy (I only read the first book), and Chronicles of Narnia.

    1. Series can be fun but I have a habit of not finishing a lot of them. Haha! And yes, it really does take up so much shelf space. Some series have like 13 books in them, like The Series of Unfortunate Events for example. :)

Fifty Shades of Grey is not my thing too, I feel. so I won't even start on it. As with Narnia, I've only read the 3rd book way back, in high school. How come you don't plan on finishing it? :)

    2. I think the longest series I have is The 39 Clues. Oh, I forgot, I also didn't finish reading the whole Harry Potter series. I don't know why, but I guess it's not my genre. I only read the first book, and half of the second book. hahaha!

As for the Narnia, I easily got bored when I read the books which were made into movie. I did enjoy The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe though, but as for the others, just so-so.

    3. You didn't finish the Harry Potter series? *clutches heart* Haha! I've only read one 39 Clues book, I liked it but not really enough for me to go out and buy the series.

You have the exact same opinion as my friend who only liked The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe only and thought the others were pretty boring.
