From Page to Film

There seem to be an abundance of book to movie adaptations this time around and for bookish people, they can be as exciting as book releases from a favorite author or series. Here are some of my most anticipated book to movie adaptations.

 In which "I've read the book that the film is based on":

 1. The Hobbit by J.R.R Tolkien - this is my absolute favorite Tolkien read and besides it's still Peter Jackson who'll do the film so I know he'll do it right and it'll be good.

2. Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins - Anything Hunger Games excites me. (If Twilight has Twihards and Harry Potter has Potterheads who do you call The Hunger Games Fans, I wonder.)  And Finnick, one of my favorite characters in Hunger Games will finally make an appearance in this one.  

3. Life of Pi by Yann Martel - I think it's one of those books that seems hard to make into a movie but Ang Lee did it and the trailer look absolutely breathtaking. 

 4. The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones by Cassandra Clare - I think the TMI series is an exciting paranormal fantasy type of YA read that has garnered a lot of following, perhaps of the Twilight level so I am definitely curious of how the movie turns out.

 5. Percy Jackson: A Sea of Monsters - I wasn't entirely happy about how much The Lightning Thief deviated from the book but I was consoled by the screen shots of Logan Lerman. But I do hope they'll try to stick to the book this time around.

 In which "I haven't read the book in which the film is based on":

 1. The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chobsky - This seems like a nice coming of age story and it stars Emma Watson and Logan Lerman. Two young gorgeous human beings. 

 2. World War Z by Max Brooks - anything zombie related is always a fun scary treat. 

 3. Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days by Jeff Kinney - I always find Wimpy Kid movies hilarious. Greg and Rowley are a funny pair. 

4. The Classics - I hardly read classics because it makes my brain bleed but if ever I acquire an e-reader, in which I can get classics for free, then I'll probably try my very best to read at least one, a year, maybe. :D Anyhow, I am still pretty excited about the movie adaptations of these classics because well aside from the fact that they are great stories, I kind of wanna ogle the movie stars involved. 
  • Les Miserables by Victor Hugo - Watched the old movie adaptation of this one, really great. Now, I want to see how the big names like Anne Hathaway, Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe can top Uma Thurman, Liam Neeson, and Geoffrey Rush.
  • Annakarenina by Leo Tolstoy - It's Keira Knightly, one of the queens of book to movie adaptations  She did great in Pride and Prejudice and Atonement. 
  • The Great Gatsby by Scott F. Fitzgerald - I am a fan of Carey Mulligan and it doesn't hurt that Leonardo DiCaprio is in it too

    There are several film adaptations I've been looking forward to as well. Among these are: Les Miserables (watched the anime version of this before), The Perks of Being a Wallflower (haven't read the book yet, but I think it will be good), Catching Fire, and Percy Jackson: A Sea of Monsters.

    You were right, though, about the first Percy Jackson movie. I was disappointed because it didn't stay true to the book. And I find it a bit boring, too. I do hope the second book film adaptation will live up to my expectations. Plus, I found out that Nathan Fillion (the actor who plays Richard Castle in Castle) will play as Hermes! hahaha!

      Oh there is an anime version of Les Miserables? I'd love to see that. I am more excited about Catching Fire and Sea of Monsters because I've read the books but the downside of that is I get disappointed when it doesn't stay true to the book. I watched Lightning Thief in the cinema with friends, they were laughing and thoroughly enjoying themselves while I was busy pointing out all the things that deviated from the book. Haha. :)

      I think Nathan Fillion would make a great Hermes. I haven't watched Castle yet but I did like him in the movie Waitress, with Keri Russell. :D

Instead of Three Wishes by Megan Whalen Turner

Image from Goodreads The first time I've heard of Megan Whalen Turner is through Chachic of Chachic's Book Nook . If you follow/frequent her blog, you'd know that she is a huge fan of Whalen's The Thief Series. Being a fantasy fan myself, I've put in The Thief in my (very long) book wish list. Since, I haven't really gotten around acquiring The Thief just yet, when I saw her name on this book I thought it would be a good chance for me to get acquainted with Whalen's writing style. Instead of Three Wishes contains seven short stories, all depicting the existence of magic in everyday lives. 1. What Reader Species Are You?
