Required Reading: August 2013

JULY REQUIRED READING REPORT

1. A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens - (5/5 Stars) I initially thought this would be a stuffy read because I tend to view classics that way. But it wasn't like that at all. I mean with all the excitement of the revolution, and the stirring speeches...my best classic read to date.

2.  Superman for all Seasons by Jeph Loeb, Tim Sale & Bjarne Hansen - (4/5 Stars) Loved the artwork, it's clean and light. The story too is pretty compelling, one gets to follow Clark's journey to being Superman, depicted in 4 seasons.

3. Batman: The Dark Knight Returns by Frank Miller, Klaus Janson & Lynn Varley - (4/5 Stars) Excellent story. Batman dealing with aging and a whole lot of ghosts from his past.

4. Various X-Men Comic Books from Marvel - (an average of 2-3 Stars) I realized Magneto and Professor X gives a lot of speeches in the older volumes. Sometimes my eyelids droop when I come across those. I did enjoy the Wolverine vs Gambit issues best.

AUGUST REQUIRED READING  (For more info on this meme visit: I Like It Dog-Eared)

1. Fear of Flying by Erica Jong - TFG Book of the Month. Erotica. HeeHee. Okay, I had my reservations, but it is turning out to be a really great, funny and enlightening read.

2. Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell - I have always been interested in Cloud Atlas but can't seem to pick it up for the longest time. Even more so after watching the somewhat psychedelic movie adaptation, which I did not understand much, save for one thing. That I have just developed a crush on Ben Whishaw (and subsequently James D'Arcy). Anyway, I found out that a couple of TFG gals are buddy reading this and I must join. Or else, I might not have the gumption to start this, ever.

3. Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell - I was suckered by Meliza of Mecanism into reading this. Haha. Naw, this has been on my TBR long before the alleged duplicity. So, what I was suckered into is reading this earlier than planned. :P

That rounds up my August, in books!

    1. Hi Monique! The premise does seem like something I would like. But the movie was kind of baffling so I kinda put it off for quite awhile. But never judge the book by it's movie, they say. :)

  3. Hey! I didn't suckered you to read Fangirl! You just said you haven't read anything from Rowell and I suggested it to be your first Rowell since you're such a fangirl. :P If I suckered you into this, didn't I suckered you into Cloud Atlas too? Haha! Anyway, I'm looking forward to reading this with you. :)

P.S. We almost have the same list, just a different Rowell book.

    1. You said: "Read Fangirl NOW!" Har! Naw, I have always wanted to read Cloud Atlas. Lynai and I really considered buddy reading it sometime this year. So maybe it was us who suckered you into it? :P

    2. Hehe, suckered... Anyway, it was really Tina who recommended Cloud Atlas to me last year. And because it's included in the TFG ReaderCon Recommendations List. :)

  4. Oh, I also developed a crush on Ben Whishaw here. Frobisher is my favorite character in the novel so I think I would have had a crush on any character who played his role. XD

    1. I am now on chapter two, Robert Frobisher's chapter! And he is charming and hilarious! Can't resist those musical types. XD
